This CD is the next installment of the “music for languages” series. Inspiration found in the sound of language and in imagining the sound culture that the given language creates results in music interpreted as “what I perceive through language”. The energy of poetry comprises the power of gesture, the physicality of articulated words, associations and the sheer sound of the language. Are these songs at all? Is this sung poetry? The singing is not of primary importance here, nor is any of the instruments. Everything is subservient to sound images created by the Japanese language. This is reinforced by the presence of two guests of Japanese background – Maya R and Kazuhisa Uchihashi, whom I owe gratitude for collaborating on this project. The music on the album was written to the poetry of Friedrich Nietzsche, Yoshihiro Harada and Kawahigashi Hekigoto.
